Before the Blog

Way back in 2004 we enlisted my father-in-law to build our first home {he is a builder}. How handy you say. Why yes, yes it was.

We moved in with our 1 year old son Fyn and my very first decorating project was Fyns ‘big boy’ room and I LOVED doing it!

Oh how I wish I discovered my addiction to home renovation mags and blogs way back then! I dreamed about the empty spare room as a girl’s nursery and decking out my office and living room not to mention getting the master bedroom sorted out. But we weren’t there long enough to do everything because flash forward to Christmas 2006 when we spotted this.

I was in LOVE!  Can we, should we, could we? HE DID …… while I was out shopping! Well that settles that. WOW. He’s very spontaneous with large purchases, what can I say. We moved back into the granny flat we used while first married at the In-laws home. We spent a year thinking, a year planning and a year building, not to mention having 2 more baby girls {we were bursting at the seams in our one room flat} as well as my need to try and ‘decorate’ the house before we moved in {considering we only owned 3 pieces of furniture.} Phew. Hello 2010. We have the keys, we have new furniture .....

……. we have another baby on the way!! WHAT!

Every room was half finished, I’d done nothing but eat, breath and sleep ‘house’ for the past few years, my baby girls could spot a tile shop from a mile away but didn’t recognise a park and my son actually asks ‘why do you love the house more than me!’ {He knows how to milk it.} I became ruled by nauseousness and exhaustion, I was OVER IT. If I saw another home magazine I thought I would go CRAZY.

But after some serious barely functioning drag time, I made a come back! QUICK it was nearly our first Christmas in the house, family were coming, friends were visiting I needed a bigger Christmas tree not to mention decorations and more seating! AAAGHHH I have to ‘finish’ the house in the next 2 months!

Yeah ….. it didn’t happen. A couple of regretful purchases and a huge stomach later I knew I had to come up with a new strategy. I had three rooms I really wanted to finish off before Christmas .... the new baby ..... I go bald. My bedroom, my office and the living room, so I'll concentrate on them. But I also have a nursery, a family room and two kids rooms to finish off, cupboards to reorganise {that might be the nesting} not to mention an empty spare room and all the outdoor stuff. Oh and the garage which is revolting! So my new strategy is to be more thoughtful, budget savvy and blog enriched! Baby to come, decorating to do, family to look after and half finished house to enjoy! And thats the story so far.
